BOLD DAY 3 💥 who's still riding for the Gospel?

Hey Family,

Welcome to BOLD Day 3. Yesterday, we talked about why we should be bold. You can read all of day 2 here.

Today, we’ll look at specific examples of boldness in the scriptures. Although the word “bold” is not always explicitly (directly) used, it can be inferred (understood) from the context of the encounter/story/passage. Other words and phrases to look for are strong, confident, courageous, power, filled with the Holy Spirit, rejecting fear, etc.

There are manyyy more examples throughout the Holy Book — if any come to mind for you, feel free to reply to this email and share them. I encourage you to read further for context and study these scriptures in your own time with the Holy Spirit.

Old Testament

Deuteronomy 31:6 - Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”

Daniel 11:32-33 He shall seduce with flattery those who violate the covenant, but the people who know their God shall stand firm and take action. 33 And the wise among the people shall make many understand,

New Testament

Acts 3 and 4 - within these chapters, Peter and John are preaching about Jesus and healing people in His name. They are thrown in jail and questioned by religious leaders who were concerned about many believing in Christ. Also within the text, a group of believers gather together to pray. I’m including excerpts (sections) from chapter 4 below.

  • Acts 4:5 The next day the rulers, the elders and the teachers of the law met in Jerusalem. 6 Annas the high priest was there, and so were Caiaphas, John, Alexander and others of the high priest’s family. 7 They had Peter and John brought before them and began to question them: “By what power or what name did you do this?” 8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: “Rulers and elders of the people! 9 If we are being called to account today for an act of kindness shown to a man who was lame and are being asked how he was healed, 10 then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. 11 Jesus is “‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.' 12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” 13 When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.
  • Acts 4:29 ”Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness
  • Acts 4:31 After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.
  • Acts 4:33 With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all
  • Acts 14:3 So they remained for a long time, speaking boldly for the Lord, who bore witness to the word of his grace, granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands.
  • Philippians 1:12-14 12 Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that what has happened to me [Paul being in jail] has actually served to advance the gospel. 13 As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ. 14 And because of my chains, most of the brothers and sisters have become confident in the Lord and dare all the more to proclaim the gospel without fear.
  • Philippians 1:20 I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.
  • 1 John 4:17: ”And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect. So we will not be afraid on the day of judgment, but we can face him with confidence because we live like Jesus here in this world”
  • 1 John 5:14 - And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.
  • 2 Corinthians 3:12: ”Since this new way [speaking of the permanent glory of Jesus Christ] gives us such confidence, we can be very bold
  • Hebrews 13:6 - So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”
  • Matthew 10:28 - And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear Him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

WHEW! I’ll leave it here for now. Clearly, the boldness of God which comes through the power of the Holy Spirit divinely inspires fire-filled speech, even in the face of harm or death. Not only this, our yielding and submitting to the divine life force of our Creator also enables us to DO great things, RECEIVE great favor, and CREATE an unprecedented (never done or known before) impact in our societies, atmospheres, and in the lives of those around us.

So let’s take a moment to remember the apostles and their ride or die lives for the Lord. Because suffering for Him is the greatest honor we will ever have. It is a privilege to share the Good News. Keep some of these scriptures with you for when you need encouragement to allow the Holy Spirit to make use of you.

See you tomorrow for Day 4.

Until glory,

Jei
