Good morning F.I.R.E Family ☀️ Happy Monday! I pray your week (and new year) is off to a great start. Now is the time to draw nearer to God than ever before. I’m starting a new series - “F.I.R.E word of the week” where we will deep dive into one word that signifies a concept we can apply to our lives to increase our faith. I hope you enjoy! This week’s word is: BOLD 🔥 Oxford dictionary definition: showing an ability to take risks; confident and courageous. Merriam Webster definition: fearless in front of danger Antonyms (opposite words): timid, cowardly, afraid Food for thought 💡 Think about this, you’re dating someone, engaged, or married - would you want them to be timid about their faithfulness and love to you? NO! You would want them to proclaim just who you are to them. You would want them to tell others about how you met, how blessed they are by you, etc. You wouldn’t want anyone to get the impression that they’re single because of their silence, right? It’s the same way with being bold about the Gospel. And we don’t have to be loud to be bold (or to be confident for that matter). While sometimes the scenario calls for an elevated tone, or we may get that sudden burst of energy, Biblical boldness is marked by continuing to share your faith, no matter who is around, or what circumstances lie ahead. Sharing an example 🔍 A content creator I adore, lost his job for using the private rooms in the office to make videos proclaiming his faith and reaching a large following. He accepted this consequence. His identity and trust in the Lord enabled God’s grace to flow through him as he continued to boldly share his testimony about being set free from an LGBTQ lifestyle. Recently, he posted a video recounting him witnessing to a new coworker who didn’t believe God wanted anything to do with him. It’s in these moments of genuine conversation that we can and should share the love of Jesus, the Good News. Here’s a link to the video and his page. How do we adopt this? 🧩 As the Holy Spirit leads us to encounter different people and environments, we should not shy away from talking about Christ in our conversations. Even if the conversation is not solely focused on Jesus as the subject, we should not be afraid to speak the name of the One who made us righteous, healed, and whole - the One who lives in us! Sure, there are some who don’t want to hear about Him, but there are many more who are seeking Him without yet being fully aware. Boldness doesn't have to be overbearing or over the top. However, sharing pieces of your story plants seeds necessary for others' spiritual growth! What does it take to be bold? 🎯 To be bold in sharing our faith requires a deep understanding of who our Lord and Savior is. Our boldness to share the Gospel also stems from how much we truly believe in it. Take Proverbs 28:1 for example: “The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion. To be righteous is to be bold. The boldness comes from our understanding that we have been made righteous because of the Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, no man can condemn us (Romans 8:1). Our sins have been cleansed, we have been called children of God (John 1:12) and we can boldly approach the throne of grace during our time of need (Hebrews 4:16). We have received God’s love, and we are in alignment with the identity He has given us. This belief inspires boldness. When we truly understand and believe in who we are as children of God, we create space for the Holy Spirit to minister to us and enable us to move, speak, testify, and witness (aka, planting seeds!) What stops us from being bold? 📌 Fear, insecurity, pride, self-centeredness, and feeling unqualified are a few areas that can keep us timid when it comes to sharing the Gospel. Check out this short from Pastor Philip Mitchell, lead pastor of 2819 Church. Can you resonate with the message? Is your need for approval keeping you silent about Jesus? Coming up ⏭️ We’ll be talking more about Biblical boldness and some steps we can take to grow throughout the week, so keep an eye on your inbox. If you have anything you’d like to share, or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to send a response.
